Out of the Wings

You are here:

Las bizarrías de Belisa (1634), Lope de Vega Carpio

Scene

It is a standard three-act comedia, with scenes both indoors and out, in the city street and in the countryside. It is a stylishly-set play; the locations are specific to the fashionable areas of Madrid and its surroundings.

Staging

Capes, hats and swords are called for. Also Belisa has to have an extensive wardrobe, as her elegance and style are frequently commented upon, and the fact that she wears a new dress in most of the scenes is noted in the stage directions. She and Finea occasionally carry pistols when they dress in disguise.
