Ahí están los Tarahumaras (1993), José Triana

Scene

This is a short one-act play.

Staging

The play takes place in and around a ‘cemetery’ of broken furniture, useless objects and doll fragments. Him and Her wear nightclothes. At times, Him can hear strange sounds – laughs, bangs, psalm singing  – which Her does not hear. The lighting is subtly evocative of them being inside a fishbowl. This fishbowl impression becomes more marked at the end of the play, as the characters bang uselessly on the sides, desperate to be released.
